Structured Data for Local Businesses: A Practical Guide
Structured data is machine-readable information about a page. For a local business, JSON-LD can help describe the organisation, category, address, opening hours, services and breadcrumbs when those facts are visible on the page.
Use the most accurate type
Choose a supported, specific LocalBusiness subtype where it fits. Add only facts you can support: name, URL, phone, address, service area, hours and relevant services. The markup should describe the page a visitor sees.
What structured data does not do
It does not force Google to show a rich result, make an AI answer cite you or repair a weak page. Google recommends following its structured-data policies and testing the implementation. Treat schema as clarity infrastructure, not a ranking hack.
A safe implementation sequence
First make the visible page accurate. Then add JSON-LD, validate it with Google's Rich Results Test, inspect the URL in Search Console and monitor changes. If you are unsure, ask your developer to implement it as part of the GEO checklist.
