How to Choose a Business Broker in New Zealand
A business broker can help structure a sale, market an opportunity, manage enquiries and coordinate a transaction. The right fit depends on your sector, location, deal size and how much support you need.
Questions worth asking
- Which businesses similar to mine have you handled recently?
- How will you establish a pricing range and what evidence supports it?
- What is included in the fee and when is it payable?
- How will buyer qualification and confidentiality be managed?
- Who coordinates accountants, lawyers, landlords and lenders?
Watch for unsupported certainty
No broker can guarantee a price, a buyer or a completion date. A confident process should still explain assumptions, risks, marketing choices and what happens if the market response is weaker than expected.
Before the first meeting, use an indicative valuation and prepare your financial information. It helps you ask better questions and understand whether advice is based on evidence.
